Junking a car in Pennsylvania starts with the title, not with a cash number you saw online. PennDOT’s salvor process sits in Title 75 §§7301-7308. Quick Tow Philadelphia is a referral line. We’re not a junkyard, and we don’t publish a cash-for-cars price.
Title and paperwork come first
For most vehicles, the buyer needs a title or a release. If the title is lost, ask the assigned operator whether they can wait while you apply for a duplicate through PennDOT. Don’t guess what a salvor will accept. Ask before anyone rolls.
This brand doesn’t buy cars. Cash is paid only if the assigned operator actually buys that car. Year, make, model, weight, and whether it runs all matter. The number you hear is the number on the invoice. There’s no site-wide cash offer, and this page won’t invent one.
If the car still has a loan, the lienholder has a say. Clear that before you treat the car as scrap. A pickup that skips the title step can stall in Kensington or Coatesville. It stalls in Center City the same way.
How the PennDOT salvor process actually runs
Title 75 §§7301-7308 is the abandoned-vehicle and salvor chapter. PennDOT authorizes salvors. Police investigate a reported-abandoned vehicle within 5 business days. They remove it within 10 business days. The salvor files a report to PennDOT within 48 hours.
Section 7305 is the reclaim rule. The owner or lienholder may reclaim within 30 days of mailed notice. That is a reclaim window after notice. It isn’t a punitive 30-day lockup, and it isn’t a DUI hold.
Philadelphia, as a first-class city, has extra rules in that chapter. This page cites the chapter rather than inventing a city-only sit-time. Ask police or the salvor which clock applies to that car.
Abandoned cars cluster on blocks in Kensington and Fairhill, and on older corridors in Chester and Coatesville. A car sitting on a public street is a police and salvor problem. A car sitting in your driveway is a title-and-pickup problem. Don’t mix the two.
Street abandonment isn’t the same as you selling the car
If you still own the car and want it gone, you are arranging a junk pickup. That is a private job. The operators we dispatch can quote a removal. They quote before the truck rolls. Whether they buy the car is a separate yes or no.
If the car is already abandoned on a public street, report it to police. Don’t call a referral line and expect that call to start the salvor clock. Police investigate within 5 business days and remove within 10. That clock is theirs.
A car in a PPA lot is a different path again. Look it up at findmytowedcar.org or 888-591-3636. Pay and reclaim, or ask the lot what happens if you don’t. Don’t treat a PPA parking tow as a junk sale until the lot says where the title stands.
Once a salvor takes the car under §§7301-7308, the paperwork is permanent. Ask the assigned operator what they need, and keep copies.
What this brand can and can’t do
We line up an operator for junk car removal. That covers Philadelphia plus Delaware, Montgomery, Bucks, and Chester counties. We own no yard. We employ no drivers. We hold no PennDOT salvor authorization. The operator who shows up handles title, pickup, and any cash.
For a car that still runs and just needs a ride, use emergency towing or the other services instead. Junking is the wrong tool for a repairable car.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a title to junk a car in Pennsylvania?
For most vehicles, yes. The buyer needs a title or a release. If the title is lost, ask the assigned operator whether they can wait while you apply for a duplicate through PennDOT. Don’t invent a workaround.
How long do I have to reclaim an abandoned car?
Under Title 75 §7305, the owner or lienholder may reclaim within 30 days of mailed notice. That clock starts after notice, not on the day the car was first spotted. Ask the salvor when notice went out.
Will you pay cash for my junk car?
Only if the assigned operator actually buys that car. Quick Tow Philadelphia doesn’t buy cars and doesn’t publish a cash price. Give year, make, model, and whether it runs when you call. The operator quotes before pickup.
Who removes a car abandoned on a public street?
Police investigate a reported-abandoned vehicle within 5 business days and remove it within 10, under Title 75 §§7301-7308. A referral line doesn’t start that clock. Report the car to police, then ask what happens next.
When to call us
Call when you own the car and have the paperwork in reach. We match you with an independent operator who quotes pickup. The line takes calls 24/7. Calls are recorded after a notice. We don’t run a junkyard. Call the line at (610) 557-1544, or write through /contact/.
